Liberty Lavender Sachets

Every year the kids make their own holiday gifts to giveaway to family and friends. This year, we decided to make holiday hearts. We came up with a simple project for them to help make–Liberty Lavender Sachets. Simply lovely inside and out, these little gifts are sure to delight anyone. Enjoy in a dresser drawer, hanging from a door knob, or as a holiday ornament.

Materials for one sachet:
Two 5″ x 5″ pieces of Liberty of London Lawn. Shown below in Margaret Annie and Castile.
Coordinating thread
6-8 tablespoons lavender flowers
Pinking shears

Heart Sachet 1

Directions:
1) Cut two 5″ x 5″ pieces of lawn. With wrong sides together, fold lengthwise in half and cut into a heart shape.

2) Cut an 8″ piece of ribbon or rickrack. Loop in half and pin in the center of the top of the heart with ends tucked inside the two pieces of fabric (fabric is still wrong sides together).

3) Starting on the side of the heart, stitch .5″ away from the edge around the entire heart, stopping about 2″ from the starting point.

4) Fill with lavender. Make sure not to overfill so that it is not difficult to sew shut. This part is perfect for little fingers.

5) Stitch the opening closed.

6) With pinking shears, cut around edges of the heart.

Liberty Dirndl Dress

This holiday season I made dirndl dresses for the lovely ladies in my life. This is one of the dresses that I made (Burda pattern 9509). I am thrilled how the dress turned out; it is both fun and whimsical as well as practical enough to wear to a special occasion. Plus, I managed to incorporate both pink and purple–just as requested!

Simple Holiday Gift: Napkins!

Cloth napkins are a great holiday gift. These fat quarter napkins are particularly great because they are not only super cute, but are quick to make as well. (Thanks Katherine for giving me the idea to make these!). The last few weeks before Christmas, I am always sewing and knitting around the clock, finishing up all of my holiday gifts. These napkins will ease the holiday craft-load since they are so easy to make. I used Liberty of London’s Lifestyle fat quarter bundles, and I love how charmingly mismatched they turned out!

Left: combination of Reds and Blues
Right: Brights
